Help Shape the Future of Greenhill Community Library
At the heart of Greenhill is a roundabout.
At the heart of Greenhill life is Greenhill Community Library.
For more than a decade, Greenhill Community Library has been far more than a place to borrow books. As a volunteer-run charity, it has become a hub for learning, connection and community life. From evening talks, cinema and community events to children’s activities and local celebrations, the library plays an important role in bringing people together.
As we look ahead to the next ten years, we are seeking two new Trustees to help shape the future of this important community asset.
Why Become a Trustee?
Our trustees say that one of the most rewarding aspects of the role is knowing that their contribution has a genuine impact on the local community.
Trustees have the opportunity to meet and work with a wide range of people, helping build connections while supporting a charity that sits at the heart of local life.
This is a chance to:
- Help shape one of Greenhill’s most important community organisations
- Use your skills to support a well-established local charity
- Meet people and build connections across the community
- Leave a lasting legacy for future generations
About the Role
As a Trustee, you will work alongside a friendly and committed board to help ensure that Greenhill Library remains sustainable, impactful and responsive to the needs of the community. You will also play an important role in overseeing the charity’s governance, financial sustainability and long-term success.
We are particularly interested in hearing from people with experience in one of the following:
- Buildings, Property and Community Spaces
- Community Engagement
Buildings, Property and Community Spaces
We are looking for someone who shares our enthusiasm for what Greenhill Library could become, and who can bring relevant expertise to help us think strategically about how our building can best support that vision in the years ahead.
You might have experience in areas such as property or estate management, architecture or surveying, facilities management, construction or building projects, or designing and developing community spaces. But we’re more interested in your passion for the library’s future than in any specific set of credentials.
The successful candidate will work alongside our wonderful volunteer teams as a Link Trustee for Buildings and Maintenance, helping shape our longer-term thinking about the use and development of our facilities.
Community Engagement
We are looking for someone who understands what makes community events tick, and who can bring that knowledge and enthusiasm into the boardroom.
Greenhill Library has a rich and varied events programme, run by brilliant volunteer teams. From evening talks and adult cinema nights to the open gardens and village markets, our events are a significant part of what we do to bring the community together. We want a trustee who instinctively gets what makes these things work, and who can help us think about how to build on them over time.
You won’t need to create a grand plan, but we want you to have a seat at the table, and use your experience to help us make good decisions as our programme continues to evolve.
Who We’re Looking For
You do not need previous trustee experience.
We welcome applications from people with transferable skills, fresh perspectives and a passion for helping communities thrive. Support and a relevant induction will be provided.
For the Community Engagement role, a strong connection to Greenhill or the surrounding area would be particularly valuable.
For the Buildings, Property and Community Spaces role, relevant expertise alongside enthusiasm for supporting the library’s future are more important than where you live.
Above all, we are looking for people who:
- Share our commitment to community impact
- Can think strategically and constructively
- Enjoy working collaboratively with volunteers
- Have good judgement and are willing to contribute to discussion and decision-making
- Want to help shape the future of Greenhill Library
Time Commitment
Trustees attend monthly board meetings, usually held in the library at 7.00pm on the last Wednesday of each month. They must also attend the Annual General Meeting.
The role typically requires around 6-8 hours per month, including board meeting preparation and attendance, and Link Trustee activities. There may occasionally be additional involvement for specific projects, particularly for the trustee supporting our buildings strategy.
Interested?
We would love to hear from you.
