The Great Debaters
Based on a true story and set in Texas in 1935, the movie tells of the efforts of Melvin Tolson to place his black debating team on equal footing with the whites at a time when “Jim Crow” laws enforced racial segregation. Directed by and starring Denzel Washington and Forest Whitaker.
