The award-winning 1989 British comedy about a middle-aged housewife in an unexpected discovery of herself and a rekindling of her childhood dreams and youthful love of life. Starring Pauline Collins as Shirley and Tom Conti as the Greek Taverna owner with whom she has a holiday romance. Screenplay by Willy Russell, who also wrote the original one-character stage play.

Tickets available now. A suggested donation of £5 gets you refreshments and a raffle ticket.

Lawks-a-mercy, the grand house of Downton is all of a flutter and a fluster upstairs and down with news that King George V and Queen Mary will be coming to stay the night and make a military inspection of local troops. All the usual cast plus Imelda Staunton as the Queen’s lady in waiting.

Tickets available about 4 weeks before. A suggested donation of £5 gets you refreshments and a raffle ticket. Door open / refreshments at 7pm. Film starts 7.30

A movie not to be missed, this stunning photorealistic computer-animated remake of Disney’s traditionally animated 1994 film tells the story of Simba, a young lion who must embrace his role as the rightful king of his native land following the murder of his father, Mufasa, at the hands of his uncle, Scar.

New Books December 2019

New Books for a New Decade

We’ve recently put over 100 new adult titles on the shelves to tempt you in 2020. Come back in the new year (we re-open on 3 Jan) and check them out. You’ll find them on the central blue display stand. In the meantime, here’s a sampling.  There are new children’s books too!

Christmas in the Library 2019

Saturday 14 December, 10am to 3pm

With singing from local school choirs plus our very own Greenhill Songsters, storytelling, a cake stall, refreshments, mulled wine, a lucky dip, and competitions, there’s something for all the family at our special day. The timetable looks like this:

The library will be decorated for Christmas; library services and the bookshop will be open all day. There is even an unconfirmed rumour that Father Christmas may visit in the afternoon.
