With singing from Greenhill, Abbey Lane and Lowedges schools plus our very own Greenhill Songsters, storytelling, lucky dip, mulled wine and cake, silent auction, and a popular Junk Modelling activity, our “Chritmas in the Library” on 8 December was a real feel-good day.

Film adaptation of Mary Ann Shaffer’s NY Times bestseller. In the aftermath of World War II, a writer forms an unexpected bond with the residents of Guernsey Island when she decides to write a book about their experiences during the war. Starring Lily James and Michael Huisman, the movie gained positive reviews with the Metro describing the performances as “classy”.

We’ve been running Code Club sessions for a while now and on 21 November, we’re holding a session for parents who:

  • Already have a child at code club 
  • Have a child who might be interested, and would like to know more

Also, although Code Club is aimed at teaching coding skills to 9-13 year olds, we’re wondering if there’s demand for a club for adults? It’s never too late to start learning! Come along if you’re interested.

Disney on Ice Colouring Competition

Enter our colouring competition to win four tickets for “Disney on Ice” at the FlyDSA Arena (Sheffield Arena) at 6.30 on Wednesday 14 November. You can download an entry form and colouring sheet to print out using this link, or pick one up from reception.

Completed entries must be returned to the library by 7 November. The winner will be notified on 8 November.

An evening of music (like no other!) with
Toffee Music

Claiming over a century of entertaining experience between them, Two old Fellas for Evening Entertainment (TOFFEE Music for short) are back with their quirky mix of songs ranging from Richard Rogers and Cole Porter through Music Hall and Vaudeville before coming “right up to date” with The Beatles. Also featuring a set of World War One songs. An evening of guaranteed enjoyment! Tickets for this event priced at £8. Toffee will be donating £100 to Weston Park Hospital.

Family Cinema: ELF

Celebrate the end of school term with a free showing of the family movie “Elf”, featuring Will Ferrell, James Caan and Bob Newhart. After inadvertently wreaking havoc on the elf community due to his ungainly size, a man raised as an elf at the North Pole is sent to the U.S. in search of his true identity.

Note the earlier-than-usual start time.There’s no booking — just turn up. (We reserve the right to refuse admission if we’re full!)

Featuring the voices of  John Hasler, Eddie Redmayne and John Hurt.

Also shown with two of our favourite Pixar Shorts: “Presto” and “For the Birds“. A great film program for pre-schoolers! (Note change of film from the one advertised in the printed newsletter)

Our children’s cinema events are not ticketed — just turn up. Suggested donation £3 adults, £2 children. Sweets, drinks, ice creams available.

The popular musical movie from 2017 starring Hugh Jackman as the legendary showman, PT Barnum, who in the late 19th century rose from nothing to create a show business that became a worldwide sensation. But will he lose sight of his family?
Empire magazine described the movie’s cast as “deeply committed to entertaining” and the movie leaves you “feeling an old-school musical thrill”.

Our Evening Cinema events are ticketed — a suggested donation of £5 gets you refreshments and a raffle ticket. Doors open and refreshments 7pm, film starts at 7.30

Everyone’s favourite superhero family is back in this hotly anticipated sequel to the 2004 movie from Pixar. Elastigirl is sent on a mission to make supers legal again while Mr. Incredible is left to care for Jack-Jack, Violet, and Dash. When a dangerous new threat arises, it is up to the family to neutralize the threat and save the day once again. Incredibles 2 was described by Empire as a “gloriously fun family parable”.
